2012-04-25 - Nippon Express holds opening ceremony for Laem Chabang Logistics Center

-- Large multi-function warehousing facility completed in eastern Thailand --

Hi-Tech Nittsu (Thailand) Co., Ltd. ("Hi-Tech Nittsu"; Hiroyuki Arikawa, President), a local subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Kenji Watanabe, President), held an opening ceremony on April 4 to mark completion of the Laem Chabang Logistics Center, a large multi-function warehousing facility long under construction in the Laem Chabang area of Thailand's eastern province of Chonburi. Approximately 100 guests attended the ceremony, including the deputy governor of Chonburi Province, Executive Vice President Jiro Nakamura and Managing Officer Shuji Kojima (Regional General Manager for South Asia & Oceania) from Nippon Express Co., Ltd., and President Hiroyuki Arikawa from Hi-Tech Nittsu.

The new Laem Chabang Logistics Center (LLC) features two large warehouses of 30,000 m2 and 20,000 m2 and a central 7,500 m2 all-weather multi-function work area located on a 136,480 m2 site that also holds a container yard and three offices of varying sizes. This facility is designed to enable Nippon Express to meet a variety of logistics needs in rapidly growing Thailand.

This warehousing facility is favorably situated a mere 18km or so from Thailand's largest trade port of Laem Chabang and about an hour's drive from central Bangkok and Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) International Airport, so expectations are high for its future potential as a logistics hub for ground, ocean and air cargo. The serious flooding in northern Thailand last year has prompted many companies to move to eastern Thailand and/or to build or consider building secondary factories there, so the LLC's home of Laem Chabang is drawing attention as an industrial area relatively safe from the impact of flooding.

Nippon Express pledges to further enhance its high-quality logistics services to meet the increasingly diverse and sophisticated needs of customers in Thailand as the country continues to grow as a production base and consumer market.
